Mother and Child Centre

Maternal and infant mortality statistics in Nigeria have improved slightly over the last few years. Nevertheless, like in many developing countries, the mortality rates are still high. UNICEF statistics indicate that every single day, Nigeria loses about 2,300 under-five year olds and 145 women of childbearing age. Also the need to improve maternal and childcare is reflected in the low percentage of births that are attended to by skilled personnel. The mother and child centre will focus in a special way of antenatal and postnatal care. As with the overarching goals of NFH. The centre seeks to provide dependable antenatal and postnatal care. Vaccination

In the last year the hospital had almost 4,000 antenatal visits. The number of patients received was limited by the facilities at our disposal. The creation of a Mother and Child centre can help to enhance our capacity to attend to more antenatal and postnatal cases.

The project will consist of:

• Maternity and Paediatric Wards
• Consulting rooms and waiting area
• Pharmacy
• Delivery room/Theatre
• Expansion of our current Pharmacy

At the moment the initial drawings have been prepared for the centre. However, the project is quite capital-intensive and we are counting on support from various quarters to progress further. A key supporter is Harambee , an NGO dedicated to supporting social projects in Africa. They have begun a series of fundraising activities to support the project.
